H.E KIM YOUNG CHAE
SOUTH KOREA AMBASSADOR
H.E. Kim Young chae was born on the 22nd of September 1964. He holds a Bachelor’s Degree in English Language, Hankuk University of Foreign Studies and a Master’s Degree in Political Science, Pennsylvania State University (Penn State), PA, U.S.A.

In 1990, he Passed the High Diplomatic Service Examination and Joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) and was later the Consul, Korean Consulate General in San Francisco, USA in 1996. He was the First Secretary; Korean Embassy in the Republic of the Philippines in 1999 and in 2002, his Secondment was to the Office of Planning for Light Water Reactor (LWR) Project, Seoul, Korea. Thereafter in 2004, he became the Counselor of Korean Embassy in the Kingdom of the Netherlands. He advanced his career as the Director, Overseas Korean Nationals Protection and Crisis Management Division, Overseas Koreans and Consular Affairs Bureau, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade (MOFAT) in 2007 and received an award for Presidential Citation, the same year. In 2008, he advanced as the Director, Southeast Asia Division, South Asian and Pacific Affairs Bureau, MOFAT, and was later appointed the Counselor, Korean Embassy in the Republic of Singapore in 2009.
H.E Kim Young was appointed Minister and Consul General, Korean Embassy in the Republic of South Africa in 2012, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Libya in 2015 and Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to ASEAN in 2018. He also served as the Special Representative for Afghanistan and Pakistan Affairs, MOFA in 2019. He is currently serving as the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the Federal Republic of Nigeria since 2021.
He is happily married with two children, a daughter and a son.
